The Law of One Price

I’ve often heard people who need such things pondering why it is that American drugs are so expenseive, while the same drug, by the same company can be so much cheaper coming from another country. The assumption was always that the American system was somehow gouging the Americans and that the foreign country price was the more “natural” price for our drugs. The FDA was somehow involved. Of course, the FDA kind of supports this idea when their only argument against importing Canadian medicine is that the FDA can’t ensure how safe it is.

No one ever mentioned to me before that drugs are cheaper in Canada because of price controls.

Now [Jane Gault](http://www.janegalt.net/blog/archives/005124.html) has hit me over the head with a discussion of the obvious.
