All the fish in a lake in Bristol are to be removed and destroyed in a bid to discourage fishing. Apparently, the fishing lines and hooks are hurting the wildlife.

This article in The Atlantic makes me tired (and a little angry) just thinking about how to debunk it. British children’s lit is better than American, because literature matches a nation’s character? Really?
If American children’s books come off as generally more shoddy than their British counterparts, it might be because so much of the great American stuff doesn’t get reprinted.

I broke a pad on my glasses, so that the frame was digging into my nose. So I went to the optometrist, and when the receptionist asked me what I needed, I pointed to my face and asked, “can you fix this?”

In an otherwise sincere and respectable line of reasoning, I see the following phrasing: “My wife is a capable and ambitious woman who does not particularly enjoy being a homemaker. She left a career in Human Resources Benefits Management…” To be quite honest, I’m having a hard time squaring “ambitious” with “Human Resources Benefits Management.”
