Perhaps I Think It’s Me

A long time ago, in what now seems like another life, I used to worship in the chapel of a large university. The amazing thing for me about this chapel was always how high and how wide the ceiling was near the front of the building. Walking toward the pulpit (the platform, the stage… I hesitate to call it an altar), the floor sloped gently downward, while the ceiling, already 60 feet above the back, angled upward, so that at the front of the room it towered more than 100 feet above. The building itself was shaped like a diamond, with the platform in one corner, just past the midpoint. The result was that, when you stood near the “front” and looked up in worship, you were filled with a sense of the vast spaciousness of the place. This was, no doubt, an unmoderated blessing when the chapel was completely packed.

But many times when I would pray during the services there, I would see in my mind’s eye a figure dancing. Continue reading “Perhaps I Think It’s Me”

Picture Day

I have done some rearranging in the gallery.  I decided to organize things into categories so I could navigate easier when I want to upload stuff.  I also have added a lot of new pictures including several new albums of pictures.  I wanted to go ahead and burn all of my pictures that I took in 2005 to cd so I thought that I would go ahead and tweak them a bit and post them on the site for visualizing.  No you don’t get to see all of them because that would take too much time, and some of the pictures I took came out terrible.  Besides I’m running behind and still have pictures waiting to be uploaded from my camera for a trip we took in January with our church.  So, without further ado here are the new categories (I hope it makes navigation easier):

I have also posted some new pictures in the end of the Magnolia album.  And here’s a list of all the new albums:

And a list of the new albums that are listed with nothing in them yet because I haven’t finished working with the photos:

  • Labor Day 2005
  • Ohio 2005
  • Christmas Break 2005-2006

I’ll put up another email when I have those last three albums completed…and maybe a few more…

Best Blonde Joke Ever

I tend to stay away from blonde jokes, for the same reason I stay away from “pollock” jokes.  However, jokes about stupid people jokes are really funny, if only we could suck out the pejorative.  So call [this](http://brandywinebooks.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_brandywinebooks_archive.html#113708696234580261) a “stupid person” joke and we’ll all be fine.

It’s still pretty funny.

Judicial Inactivism

I’m still not getting this:

The 9th Circuit Court of appeals has been playing a little bait and switch tactic with their judicial activisim lately. Early this month they [ruled against families](http://www.afa.net/clp/ReleaseDetail.asp?id=108) and in favor of a local school district over whether the school was allowed to ask sexually explicit questions of children in a survey without informing the childen’s parents. However, instead of applying the traditional technique of inventing new rights in order to usurp the role of legislators, for this one they found a way to invent a novel *lack* of rights: Continue reading “Judicial Inactivism”

More on Pro-Life “Spam”

Peter Shinn at MarchTogether.com quickly replied to my email I sent him, and seemed apologetic enough that I thought I’d at least try to give him a fair hearing. The mistake he seems to have made was in realizing that this is a tiny little weblog, and not something a little more slick and professional: I never got around to putting our email addresses on the about page, so he assumed that posting his letter on the about page was going to send me a private little note.

Here’s his reply to me: Continue reading “More on Pro-Life “Spam””

Pro-Life Spam?

I just received a comment on our “about” page from a pro-life blogger who wanted to use my site to promote his pro-life movement. Unfortunately, instead of *asking* for me to promote him, he just went ahead and commented with a full-page advertisement. His comment has since been deleted, and I’m not going to even bother linking to him, since I don’t think he should get any positive credit for using spam techniques, no matter how good his cause.

However, I thought I’d post the email reply I sent to him:

> I received a comment from you on my site that ammounted to a complete article/advertisement for your organization. I’m deleting your comment, and I thought you might like to know why.

> While I am 100% behind anything that might help to end the scourge of abortion, it isn’t fair to me or to anyone else for you to take advantage of my space to advertise your programs without my permission. I’m sure you have an excellent agenda, but taking advantage of other people to promote it is unchristian and uncalled for.

> If you had posted a comment asking me to post something about your organization, I might have been willing to give you front page space to do so, and hopefully drawn the attention of whatever readers I might have. But as it is, your comment counts as little more than spam, and so it will be deleted.

Peace,
Kyle French

What I was trying to say was…

My Uncle John put up a very interesting response to the last important post that I put up (no not the one about the snow). I realized that I had probably not completely made myself clear when I read his first line, “Your anger concerns me.” Oops. I did not mean to sound angry by any means, a little upset about a flaw I perceive about the medical system, but not angry. Instead of simply copying, pasting and responding to what Uncle John said, I decided to simply write a follow up in response to the issues he brought up. So here goes.

First, I would like to say that I do not want to reduce the amount of choices in medicine. On the contrary, I want to increase choices for everyone involved. Continue reading “What I was trying to say was…”
