The Lord is Good and His Mercies Endure Forever

Guess what?

I am going to be the local public health office intern for Gloucester this summer!

I received the call this afternoon just before I got on the train to come to class. I’m so excited about this blessing that the Lord has given to me. My internship is coordinated through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Division of Epidemiology and Immunization, but it primarily focuses on individualized projects through a local office. As part of the internship I will be required to be required to attend bot han orientation session (June 13th) and a graduation session (I don’t know when it is yet). I will also be required to give a presenation for the other summer interns, local public health agents and MDPH representatives about my experience during the internship.

I will be required to work a minimum of 15 hours a week. I plan to work full time (40 hours a week) at the internship so that I can be finished with my hours before mom, dad and Alex come to see us at the end of July. The minimum total hours I can take is 140 and the maximum is 200 hours between June 13th and August 16th.

Here’s the official description of the internship for the Gloucester Health Office in case you were interested:

Gloucester: This health department will help design and plan specific projects as directed by the student’s interests. Current possibilities include:
1. Development of a community needs assessment and implementation of changes indicated by the results
2. Emergency preparedness planning including the development of an emergency dispensing site.
3. Summer health education, outreach and case investigation related to Lyme, WNV, EEE and other zoonotic
diseases.
4. Beach water testing
5. Summer camp inspections
6. Foodborne illness investigations
And many other public health opportunities as they arise!

I’m not sure just yet exactly what I’ll be doing but its extremely exciting to have an iternship that’s tailored to the degree that I’m getting. I’ll try to write more later, but right now, I’m working on the final push for my spring semester.

  1. I’m skimming these things too much… For a second I thought your title read: “The Lord is Good and His Mercedes Endure Forever”

    …I think I feel a *move* of the Spirit…
