Ug. Yesterday was terrible. I woke up feeling ok a little full from the previous night’s dinner and was up and running like normal. Kyle and I were ahead in our packing so we decided to go into Danvers to pick up some bags for the fish and just relax a bit away from the house.

When we got home, I decided to take a nap. When I woke up from my nap around 2pm, I was feeling quite nauseous. Shortly thereafter I had thrown up twice. Because I was feeling a bit better and we had made previous plans to eat dinner with some friends from churh, we decided to go out last night. Bad idea. The smell of the cooking food made me nauseaus againg and I couldn’t keep anything down (including soda crackers and 7up). I relived my stomach twice while we were there and I felt really bad about going in the first place. Spending the eveing on the couch at a friend’s house and then having to run to the bathroom is probably not the best way to be a good dinner guest. Thankfully they were women and understood my predicament.

When we got home, I threw up one more time and went straight to bed. I was terribly exhausted and everything ached. From about 8pm to 1:30am, I was up and down to the rest room, thankfully I had nothing left inside me to come up but I had some major pain in my lower intestinal tract and was running a nice fever.

My question is, does pregnancy sickness tend to have the classic signs of food poisoning? Whatever this was it moved through my system as though I had food poisoning. There was hardly any stomach acid at all (no burning was a nice thing in retrospect). Kyle had also woken up feeling a bit icky, but maybe I got hit harder because of the pregnancy. Who knows. I’m feeling somewhat better today if a bit groggy and dehydrated.

Mom said for me to eat soda crackers before getting up in the morning and to keep them handy all day. I’m also going to be finishing the packing by delegation today so that I can rest before the move. Please pray that whatever is finishing off going through my system doesn’t last long.

  1. Already talked to you, but I’ll say it again. If it continues: morning sickness. If it stops: food poisoning or a bug. I’ve never had food poisoning (which is sort of surprising, considering all the “oops, I just ate rotten food” moments I’ve had) so I can’t comment there.

And like I said, I had an isolated incident like this when I was pregnant with Josiah. It was just a bug.

  2. I have had food poisoning and I had bad morning sickness with Kyle. About the only difference was that the food poisoning was perhaps more intense and only lasted one day and the morning sickness went on “forever” or so it seemed and no fever

    — Another good remedy for nausea along with the crackers & 7up is peppermint. Peppermint candies or peppermint tea.

  3. I officially think it was food poisoning. It was quite intense for a few hours and I was no longer nauseaus by the next day. I’m still feeing really tired and have to sit down frequently. Thankfully, I have a rolling chair that I can keep my tushie in as I oversee the moving today (at least until they take my chair away).

I also have peppermint tea since that’s one of my favorites (Ginger tea as well). I would make a cup, but everything’s packed. I’ll probably get a cup tonight though, C tends to keep a lot of teas in her house like I do.
